Dear readers of the Hacettepe Journal of Biology and Chemistry,

It is a great pleasure to present this year’s third issue of the Hacettepe Journal of Biology and Chemistry. This special issue includes selected publications from 15th National Chromatography Congress, which held in beautiful and historical city Uşak, on April 8-10, 2015 with the hospitality of Uşak University. Researchers, academics and students from different universities presented oral and poster presentations. The topics covered different chromatographic techniques and their applications, proteomic studies, biosensor design and applications, molecularly imprinted polymers, affinity therapy systems etc. Both oral and poster sessions were of high quality and provided a great opportunity for exchanging information and discussion on technical and scientific issues.

In a short span of time our journal became a platform of interesting and high quality manuscripts from all over the World. Our distinguished editorial board members also reflect continuous expansion of Hacettepe Journal of Biology and Chemistry. We are proud of Prof.Dr. Aziz Sancar, our editorial board member, awarded Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research into the mechanisms that cells use to repair DNA, which occurs every single minute of the day due to outside forces, such as ultraviolet radiation and other environmental factors. In particular, Sancar mapped nucleotide excision repair, which is vital to UV damage to DNA. When this repair system is defective, people exposed to sunlight develop skin cancer.

We are also happy to announce that Prof.Dr. Arzum Erdem Gürsan, another editorial board member of Hacettepe Journal of Biology and Chemistry, has received the TUBITAK Science Award for her studies on Health Sciences. She is working on the development of electrochemical biosensors for the detection of drug and biological compounds, DNA chip technology and the disposable genosensor technology and electrochemical sensing of biomolecular interactions with her group.

It is our hope that this fine collection of articles will be a valuable resource for our readers and will stimulate further studies and research into the vibrant area of biology and chemistry related disciplines.
